Woodgate Valley Country Park

Woodgate Valley Country Park is an area of countryside in the centre of Bartley Green and Quinton. It is an ideal place to go for a leisurely walk, observe wildlife, walk the dog, ride on a horse or it can simply be a great place to get away from the noise and traffic of the city. The park comprises 450 acres of many different habitats. There are many mixed, mature hedgerows, species rich meadows, woodland, small ponds and the Bourn brook running through its heart. Originally a mosaic of farms and smallholdings the park has retained much of its rural character. Just a short walk or drive from Woodgate are other sites that are all worth a visit in their own right and present their own unique habitats.

Facilities

Recreation - Before you set off to discover Woodgate Valley, the visitor centre is an ideal place to start. The Ranger Service is based here and can supply a a wealth of information about the site and surrounding areas - including wildlife, habitat identification and the many way marked walks. There is also a constantly changing interpretive display with a wide range of information to help tell the story of Woodgate Valley - from the ancient past to the present day.

Play Areas - Immediately outside the visitor centre, which is in a landscaped setting, there is a play area suitable for children under 15 years of age.

Pony Trekking - Ever wanted to ride around a Country Park on horseback? Then Woodgate is the place to do it. Hole Farm Trekking Centre is an integral part of the park. It provides led rides and riding lessons for all levels and abilities. Beginners are especially welcome and all ages are catered for.

Flora and Fauna - Over 250 species of plants have been found at Woodgate Valley, the damp meadow areas being especially rich and producing wonderful displays of wild flowers in spring and summer. The meadows also attract many kinds of butterflies and over 80 species of birds have also been recorded in the park.

Urban Farm - The Woodgate Valley Urban Farm is managed as a Charity by a Committee of Trustees from the local community. Visitor attractions include rare breed sheep, Limousin cattle, Vietnamese pot bellied pigs, poultry, pygmy goats, rabbits, guinea pigs and other small animals. There is a demonstration garden and a developing traditional orchard. The Urban Farm is open, weather permitting, 10.30am to 4pm every day.
Group visits welcome but these must be by appointment.

Refreshments - There is a cafe at the visitor centre serving a wide range of hot and cold snacks and drinks. There are also a number of outdoor picnic tables near the centre - these are fully accessible to wheelchair users.

Events - The Rangers at Woodgate Valley Country Park run a year round events programme. We provide over 20 events each year ranging from craft activities to bat walks.

Education - Woodgate Valley provides an ideal place for children of all ages to learn about the environment. The Ranger Service provide their "Education Naturally" study support programme, but can tailor many activities to suit individual groups. These are available to all groups.

Walks - With varied terrain and a rich landscape to explore, its easy to get yourself out around the park. You can set off on your own route or follow the specially designed routes to give you a true feel and flavour of the park. To find out more please use the following link

Toilets - Located in the visitor centre, both the ladies and gents toilets are fully accessible to wheelchair users.

The main entrance and Visitor centre is located off Clapgate Lane. There is a large car park which offers free parking and is fully accessible to people with disabilities.
